Celebrating the Literary Legacy of Munshi Premchand:

Book Exhibition and Book Jacket Making Competition

The school library organised a special literary programme to introduce students to the remarkable life, works, and literary contribution of Munshi Premchand, one of the most celebrated figures in Hindi literature. The programme combined a book exhibition with a creative Book Jacket Making Competition, providing students with an opportunity to explore literature while expressing their creativity.

📚 Exhibition of Books on Munshi Premchand

A dedicated book exhibition on Munshi Premchand was arranged in the library. A selection of his well-known literary works was displayed for students to explore. The exhibition provided students with an opportunity to become familiar with Premchand's contribution to Hindi and Urdu literature and to discover stories that portray ordinary people, their struggles, aspirations, relationships, and social realities.

Students visited the exhibition with great interest and explored the books on display. The activity encouraged them to browse books independently, read about the author, and develop curiosity about his stories and characters. The exhibition also served as an invitation to students to go beyond their textbooks and discover the richness of Indian literature.

The library environment became a lively space for reading, discussion, exploration, and literary discovery as students interacted with the displayed books and shared their impressions with their peers.

🎨 Book Jacket Making Competition

To make the programme more creative and engaging, a Book Jacket Making Competition was organised for the students. Participants selected books and designed attractive book jackets inspired by the themes, characters, and ideas represented in the stories.

Students were encouraged to think about how a book cover can communicate the essence of a story even before the book is opened. They worked on elements such as title presentation, illustrations, colours, author details, typography, and creative design. The activity allowed students to combine their understanding of literature with imagination and artistic expression.

Through the competition, students learnt that a book jacket is not merely a decorative cover—it can create curiosity, provide clues about the story, and encourage a reader to pick up the book. Designing their own jackets also encouraged students to think deeply about the central idea, mood, and characters of the selected books.

🌟 Reading Meets Creativity

The combination of the book exhibition and book jacket making activity created a meaningful connection between reading and creativity. Students were encouraged not only to look at books but also to engage with them, interpret their ideas, and represent their understanding through visual art.

The programme helped promote several important skills, including reading habits, literary appreciation, creative thinking, observation, communication, and artistic expression. It also reinforced the role of the school library as a dynamic learning space where students can explore literature through different forms of activities.

The activity provided students with a wonderful opportunity to discover the literary world of Munshi Premchand while giving them the freedom to express their own ideas creatively.

A Celebration of Books, Stories and Imagination

The programme successfully brought together literature and creativity under one roof. The exhibition encouraged students to discover the works of a great literary figure, while the book jacket competition allowed them to transform their understanding of books into creative visual expressions.

Such activities make the library more than a place where books are stored—they make it a place where stories are discovered, ideas are shared, creativity is nurtured, and a lifelong love for reading is developed.

Read a story. Discover an idea. Create something of your own!

Kargil Vijay Diwas: Remembering the Heroes of Kargil

As part of the Annual Library Activity Plan, a special programme was organised to observe Kargil Vijay Diwas and to commemorate the courage, valour, and supreme sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and to inspire them with the values of courage, patriotism, dedication, discipline, and selfless service to the nation.

A PowerPoint presentation on the Kargil War and its brave heroes was presented to the students. Through the presentation, students were introduced to important aspects of the Kargil conflict and the extraordinary bravery displayed by Indian soldiers in extremely challenging conditions. The stories of the Kargil heroes helped students understand the dedication and determination with which our soldiers defended the nation and made great sacrifices in the line of duty.

The presentation also provided an opportunity for students to reflect upon the contribution of the armed forces and the importance of remembering the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the safety and security of the country. The students listened attentively and participated with interest throughout the session.

Following the presentation, a paragraph-writing activity was organised for the students. They were encouraged to write about Kargil Vijay Diwas, the bravery of Indian soldiers, patriotism, and the sacrifices of the armed forces. The activity provided students with an opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings in their own words while developing their writing, comprehension, and communication skills.

The programme successfully combined visual learning, awareness, reflection, and creative writing. It helped students connect historical events with values such as courage, responsibility, national pride, and respect for the armed forces.

The activity was a meaningful part of the Annual Library Activity Plan and reinforced the library's role not only as a centre for reading and learning but also as a space for developing awareness, values, creativity, and responsible citizenship among students.

Through remembering the heroes of Kargil, students were encouraged to understand the importance of courage, sacrifice, and service to the nation.

Book-Themed Trivia: Making Reading Fun and Expressive

The Readers Club organised an engaging Book-Themed Trivia Session with the aim of developing students’ interest in books, reading, and effective communication. The activity provided students with an opportunity to explore reading in an enjoyable and interactive manner while strengthening their confidence and fluency.

A special focus of the session was on reading aloud. Students were encouraged to read selected newspaper content aloud and present it in an anchor-style format, just as news presenters do. They learnt that effective reading is not simply about pronouncing the words correctly; it is also about understanding the content, using appropriate expression, and communicating the message clearly to the audience.

During the activity, students were guided on where to pause while reading, which words or sentences to highlight, and how to use voice modulation and emphasis. They practised taking short pauses at punctuation marks and longer pauses where a change of idea or sentence required it. Students also learnt how highlighting important words can make their reading more meaningful and help listeners understand the main information easily.

The newspaper-reading activity also encouraged students to observe the structure of news reports. They learnt to identify important information and present it in a clear and organised manner. By reading aloud like news anchors, students developed greater confidence in speaking before others and became more attentive to pronunciation, pace, clarity, and expression.

The trivia component added an element of fun and curiosity to the session. Students participated enthusiastically and demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of books and reading. The activity encouraged them to think, recall information, listen carefully, and participate actively with their peers.

The session highlighted an important message: reading is not only an individual activity but also a powerful means of communication. Regular reading aloud can help children develop fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, confidence, and the ability to express ideas effectively.

Through such Readers Club activities, the school library seeks to create a reading-rich and language-friendly environment where students can read, speak, listen, think, and share their ideas with confidence. The Book-Themed Trivia session was therefore not just a quiz or reading activity; it was an opportunity for students to experience reading as an enjoyable, expressive, and meaningful form of learning.

The Readers Club looks forward to organising more such activities that encourage students to read widely, read aloud confidently, and discover the joy of books.
