National Librarians' Day – Celebrating New Books, Readers and Creativity

National Librarians' Day was celebrated in the school library with a special programme dedicated to the joy of reading, discovery of new books, and creative expression. A special book exhibition featuring newly arrived books purchased from the National Book Trust (NBT) was organised in the library. The newly added titles were attractively displayed so that students could browse the collection, explore different subjects and genres, and discover books of their interest.

The exhibition created excitement among students as they got an opportunity to see and explore the latest additions to the library collection. Students were encouraged to handle the books, read their covers and introductions, and select books that appealed to their interests.

The exhibition also highlighted the continuous efforts of the library to enrich its collection with quality reading material for students.

An interesting feature of the programme was the student book review activity. Students who explored the newly arrived books were invited to share their views and experiences about the books they had read.

 Kargil Vijay Diwas: Remembering the Heroes of Kargil

As part of the Annual Library Activity Plan, a special programme was organised to observe Kargil Vijay Diwas and to commemorate the courage, valour, and supreme sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and to inspire them with the values of courage, patriotism, dedication, discipline, and selfless service to the nation.

A PowerPoint presentation on the Kargil War and its brave heroes was presented to the students. Through the presentation, students were introduced to important aspects of the Kargil conflict and the extraordinary bravery displayed by Indian soldiers in extremely challenging conditions. The stories of the Kargil heroes helped students understand the dedication and determination with which our soldiers defended the nation and made great sacrifices in the line of duty.

The presentation also provided an opportunity for students to reflect upon the contribution of the armed forces and the importance of remembering the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the safety and security of the country. The students listened attentively and participated with interest throughout the session.

Following the presentation, a paragraph-writing activity was organised for the students. They were encouraged to write about Kargil Vijay Diwas, the bravery of Indian soldiers, patriotism, and the sacrifices of the armed forces. The activity provided students with an opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings in their own words while developing their writing, comprehension, and communication skills.

The programme successfully combined visual learning, awareness, reflection, and creative writing. It helped students connect historical events with values such as courage, responsibility, national pride, and respect for the armed forces.

The Readers Club organised an engaging Book-Themed Trivia Session with the aim of developing students’ interest in books, reading, and effective communication. The activity provided students with an opportunity to explore reading in an enjoyable and interactive manner while strengthening their confidence and fluency.

A special focus of the session was on reading aloud. Students were encouraged to read selected newspaper content aloud and present it in an anchor-style format, just as news presenters do. They learnt that effective reading is not simply about pronouncing the words correctly; it is also about understanding the content, using appropriate expression, and communicating the message clearly to the audience.

During the activity, students were guided on where to pause while reading, which words or sentences to highlight, and how to use voice modulation and emphasis. They practised taking short pauses at punctuation marks and longer pauses where a change of idea or sentence required it. Students also learnt how highlighting important words can make their reading more meaningful and help listeners understand the main information easily.

The newspaper-reading activity also encouraged students to observe the structure of news reports. They learnt to identify important information and present it in a clear and organised manner. By reading aloud like news anchors, students developed greater confidence in speaking before others and became more attentive to pronunciation, pace, clarity, and expression.

The trivia component added an element of fun and curiosity to the session. Students participated enthusiastically and demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of books and reading. The activity encouraged them to think, recall information, listen carefully, and participate actively with their peers.

The session highlighted an important message: reading is not only an individual activity but also a powerful means of communication. Regular reading aloud can help children develop fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, confidence, and the ability to express ideas effectively.
