The Reading Promotion Week – 1 at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Sundargarh began with a vibrant Story Telling Competition on 23rd July 2026. Students from Classes 3 to 8 participated enthusiastically, narrating their favourite stories from the books they had read in the library. 

🌟 Event Highlights:

• Students confidently narrated tales filled with imagination, humour, and life lessons.

• Narrations reflected their reading habits, creativity, and presentation skills.

• Many participants used expressions, gestures, and voice modulation to bring their stories alive.

• The audience was deeply engaged, listening with curiosity and excitement.

🎉 Memorable Moment:
One student narrated a folk tale with such enthusiasm that it felt like watching a live play. The expressions and energy left everyone applauding loudly.

🏆 Outcome:
The judges appreciated the storytelling skills, clarity of language, and confidence of the participants. Winners were declared from each group, and all participants were praised for their efforts.

✨ Conclusion:

The Story Telling Competition not only encouraged students to read more books but also gave them a platform to express themselves. It was indeed a perfect start to the Reading Promotion Week – 1, inspiring young readers to step into the magical world of stories.

• 23.07.2026 – Storytelling Competition
  Students of Classes 3–8 will narrate their favourite stories from books they have read.

• 24.07.2026 – Bookmark Making Competition
  Students of Classes 6–8 will design unique bookmarks inspired by their favourite characters or books.

• 25.07.2026 – Poem Recitation Competition
  Students of Classes 3–8 will recite poems in English or Hindi.

• 27.07.2026 – Drawing Competition
  Students of Classes 3–8 will create artworks inspired by their favourite stories and characters.

• 28.07.2026 – Words Per Minute Competition
  Students of Classes 3–8 will read aloud for one minute with correct pronunciation and fluency.

• 29.07.2026 – Book Review Writing Competition
  Students of Classes 3–8 will write reviews of books they have read during library periods.

General Guidelines

• All activities for the Primary Wing (Classes 3–5) will be organised by the respective in-charges and reported to the Overall In-charge (Librarian).

• Activities for the Secondary Wing (Classes 6–8) will be conducted in the library during the 3rd periods only.

• The preferred languages are English and Hindi.

• Three winners will be selected from each activity and group.

The school library successfully organized the Monthly Book Review Activity for students of Classes VI to VIII as part of its ongoing reading promotion initiatives. Conducted in the respective class libraries, the activity aimed to cultivate a lifelong reading habit, enhance comprehension skills, and encourage students to become thoughtful and confident readers.

Students enthusiastically participated by selecting books of their choice from the class library and presenting their reviews before their classmates. They shared concise summaries of the stories, introduced the main characters, discussed the central themes, and highlighted the moral values and life lessons they had learned. Their thoughtful presentations reflected not only their understanding of the books but also their ability to analyze and interpret different literary works.

A special feature of the programme was the opportunity for students to express their personal opinions about the books they read. The school library is delighted to present Atal Bal Hindi Kavita Sangrah – 2025, a remarkable anthology of original Hindi poems written by school students from across India. Published by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, the collection commemorates the 101st birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee while promoting creativity, literary expression, and awareness of Intellectual Property Rights among young learners.

The message in the book highlights that the youth of India are the driving force behind the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Inspired by the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the anthology was created through a nationwide original Hindi poetry competition that encouraged students to express their ideas, emotions, patriotism, and creativity through poetry. The initiative not only nurtures literary talent but also spreads awareness about the importance of respecting original creations and intellectual property.

The anthology features 100 selected poems written by students from different schools and states of India. These poems beautifully capture the thoughts, dreams, emotions, and aspirations of young writers. International Children's Book Day

On the delightful morning of 2nd April, PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sundargarh, came alive with the magic of stories as we celebrated International Children’s Book Day with great enthusiasm. This special event was organised for the students of Classes 2 and 3, turning an ordinary day into an extraordinary journey through the world of books and imagination.

In addition to the storytelling, the children had the wonderful opportunity to visit the school library. They explored the various sections, learned about how the library works, and discovered the treasures it holds. A special display of books in both Hindi and English was arranged, showcasing a variety of genres to inspire our young readers to embark on their own reading adventures.

The event successfully ignited a passion for books among our students and highlighted the importance of reading in their academic and personal growth. We look forward to many more such celebrations that nurture the love for literature in our school community!
